Monday Prayer Requests
This will be the final prayer request email of the week. We sincerely want to thank you for joining us on the journey and for your support and prayers throughout this trip.
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. God’s love was revealed among us in this way:God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us. 1 John 4:7-12
Love is such a difficult word to define because we use it in so many different ways. We say, “I love tacos,” “I love kickboxing,” “I love my family,” and to that one person, “I love you.” We often think of love as a feeling, something that rises and falls. For example, you might love tacos today but not especially like them in two years. But God’s love being described in this scripture passage is eternal. God’s love is an unchanging commitment, a choice, made and finalized before the beginning of time. We see that most fulfilled in the life, death, and resurrection of God’s only son, Jesus Christ, sent to the world to reveal God’s love for us.
Because of this, God also calls us to bring the light of his love to others. In fact, the writer of 1 John says “since God loved us so much, we ought to love one another.” God’s love is not intended to be stored up for ourselves, but to be given away freely. This last week, we gave the love of Christ through our words and actions to all those who we served. But in the coming week we will have many more opportunities to love others. In many ways, it is far more difficult to share the love of Christ with our family and friends than with people that we have never met before.
So go into this week with confidence knowing that the experience of Christ that you had this week will go with you. You are loved by God and sent by Christ to bear that love to others.
Wherever your journey takes you and whatever you do, know this… You have been Sent by Love.
